This 3,500 s.f. residence marries the Shingle Style with Dutch Colonial and has been designed for a family of four on a 1/2 acre knoll-top. Building siting was influenced by solar orientation, views of Mt. Tam, driveway access points, and several mature oak trees. A one+ story accessory building on the site is to be converted to a music studio.
The plan is comprised of three levels, though the house is technically two stories (to meet town zoning restrictions), as only two stories stack at any point. From the driveway circle, a grand curving entry stair brings visitors to the main (mid-) level which sits at the elevation of the rear garden. On axis with the entry hall is the dining room, flanked on either side by the formal living room and the casual great room–kitchen, family room, and breakfast area. This level also contains a guest suite and wine cellar. The upper level contains the family bedrooms, laundry, and a media room.
The design has a comfortable formality with extensive exterior and interior trim and casework. The landscape concept plan shows the expansive sitework that will help make this house a peaceful sanctuary.
