We are currently completing construction documents for this major renovation and expansion. The two acre site in northern Marin extends from a valley floor up a wooded hillside. The existing 4,500 s.f. house will be mostly removed and the remaining structure will be expanded to 9,000 s.f. in a Tudor Revival style of exceptional quality reminiscent of the works of Sir Edwin Lutyens and George B. Post.

The house is designed on three levels, with the lowest floor tucking into the hillside to minimize the apparent size of the structure. At this level there will be a large recreation room and home theater, wine cellar, exercise studio, sauna, and support spaces. The recreation room will open to a sunset terrace and lawn.

The brick entry rotunda at the middle floor, with its conical slate roof, will be approached from a large stone terrace. Inside, one will be presented with an open plan, highly detailed architecture, and elegant finishes. Curving staircases will extend to the upper and lower floors. A 2,400 s.f. Great Room will anchor one end of this floor, a three car garage the other end, linked by a mud room, laundry, stair hall, Powder room, and library.

The entry rotunda extends to a large two story stair hall. At the upper level, the stair hall opens to the rear terrace, lawn, and pool area. A wide cross axis links the master suite on one end with the children’s suites and a den at the other.

Although the town limits hillside development to a maximum 4,000 s.f., this project was approved by the design review committee exactly as presented in a single 25 minute meeting. Committee members cited the extraordinary quality of design as their reason for their unanimous support and approval.
